Miss Victoria Kent, Spain's first Republican director-general of prisonsj who is au Irishwoman by birth, appeared in a moving scene recently. She was approuclied by three orphan girls, who prayed her to release their brother, Antonio Rodriguez, who is serving a sentence in Madrid px;ison, in order that he might kiss his dead mother before lier burial. Miss Kent was so moved by the girls' plea that, it is said, she joined in their tears, and ordered the prisoner's immediate temporary release. Rodriguez was arrested after the burning of. convents.
