KENNEDY'S BUSH BURNT OUT.
BLAZE ON HILLS.
FARMER'S FIRE GETS AWAY. A firo that practically destroyed Kennedy's Bush swept the valley below the Rest Houso yesterday afternoon. Beginning during the morning below the bush, on a farm where burning-off was in progress, the tiro swept both sides of the valley, and reached right to the Summit road, being ultimately put out at about 11 p.in. A gang of men from neighbouring farms fought the fire during the afternoon and evening, eight of them being at work up to the end. Their efforts prevented the damage extending beyond the immediate area. When the fire began to get. away from the farm, chiefly because it was fanned by the nor'-west wind, the owner and his one man were unable to cope with it, and as _it began to threaten tho bush early in the afternoon and was enlisted from other nearby farms. The ltest Houso and the bush near it remain untouched, but apart from one or two clumps of trees, in tho deeper parts of the gullies, -the remainder of tho area has been burnt out, only the larger blackened trunks standing. •• Mr H. G, Ell last night expressed his thanks to the men who had assisted in fighting the fire.
