RAIN STOPS WORK. A steady, drizzling rain from the sou'west stopped all work on the waterfront yesterday morning, but work was resumed in the afternoon. The weather was very thick and visibility along the coast was very poor. Meeting. A public meeting of those willing to assist in the forthcoming street collection in aid of the Plunkct Society will bo held in the Council Chambers tonight, commencing at 7.30. The Mayoress (Mrs F. E. Sutton) .will preside. Schools Hockey. Four pupils of the Lyttelton District High School have been included in tho hockey team which will leave for Dunedin on Friday to represent Canterbury against the Otago secondary and primary schools on Saturday. The boys are E. Parrott, J. May, M. Lester, and •/. Tissiman. Seal in Harbour. Passengers waiting on the jetty at Diamond Harbour for tho last launch on Sunday evening were entertained by an unusual visitor, a seal about 8 to 9 feet in length, which was busily "fishing among the kelp at the foot of the bluff adjacent to the jetty. For some time the seal delighted the onlookers with an exhibition of his skill and grace in the water, but later he disappeared toward mid-harbour.
