. SUBSIDY ON WAGES. UNEMPLOYMENT BOARD'S WORK Xii the Unemployment Board's first report (which -was presented* to Parliament last week) 'figures are quoted to show the practical assistance given to stimulate primary production l in the Dominion. ,• The Board's schemes chiefly used on farms were, what are known as 4A and 48. Under the former the Board subsidises the wages of men engaged by farmers, and '4B is a scheme .whereby the Board .provides 33 1-3. per cent, of the labour cost of developmental contracts on farms, tho maximum amount payable on each, contract being £75. In addition to these aphonies, the Native Trust Department, with the assistance. of the Board's funds, lias-em-ployed several hundred men in developmental work on Aohanga Station (Pongaroa), • and Motuweka Station (Porangahau); and tho Native Department lias also received a grant from the Board for the purpose -of employing Maoris on work of a developmental nature. ?
