WELLINGTON'S FLOATING DOCK.
MOORING WHARF COMPLETED. (lilies ASSOCIATION TEUJGaAII.) WELLINGTON, September 4. With a display of bunting to mark the occasion, the finishing touches were put to-dny to the Wellington Harbour Board's new wharf to which tho Jubilee Dock will be moored on its arrival from England" about March next. General satisfaction was expressed by tho Board's officials at the progress ol the work on the wharf, which had been completed five months within the time allowed. It comprises aa approach jetty of 275 ft long and 28ft wide, and a main pier 489 ft long and 54ft wide. Tho sea-bed over which tho dock will lie has been dredged to a uniform depth of 46 feet. The dock, which left the Tyne on a long tow to New Zealand on July 15th. has been supplied by Clarke, Chapman, and 00., Gateshead, with a five-ton olectrio travelling portal crane, which j>ossesses several features of interest. It is designed to deal with loads of two tons_at. a radius of 54ft and five tons The total lift of the hook nt the former radius is 90ft. The jib is straight and of tho open lattice type, being 60ft long. The crane is of the central revolving mast typo, which 1 gives great pjise in the revolving 1 motion,- with reduced roller loads and minimum stresses. Special rail clips 1 are provided to ensure absolute stabil- ' lty when travel liner. '
