GOLF.

WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP. FINAL AT SHIRLEY. Tho final of the golf championship of the Christchurch Ladies' Golf Club was played at the Shirley links yesterday, between Miss Maberley Beadel and Mrs Geoffrey Kingscote. The weather was perfect and the match excited much interest, nearly a hundred spectators, including many visitors from other clubs, following the players in the afternoon. ■ The match began, at 10.30. Both players drove well from tho' first tee, but Mrs Kingscote was wide with her second, allowing Miss Beadel to win the hole in 5. The second was halved in well played 4's, and at Muggeridge's neither was on the green with her tee shot, but Miss Beadel played a perfect approach over the bunker on the left to within a yard of the pin and holed out in 3 to her opponent's 4. At Land's End Miss Beadel put her third out of bounds, and her next into the bunker on the left near the green, Mrs Kingscote winning the hole in 7. At Farthest North, after splendid drives, Mrs Kingscote was short with her second, while Miss Beadel was in the shallow bunker beside the green. Both were on the green in 3, but Mrs Kingscote took three putts and lost the hole, making Miss Beadel 2 up. The sixth was helved in 6,and at Nor'-West Mrs Kingscote, who had up to this point been driving'beautifully, was caught in the bunker with he* 'drive and lost the hole, her opponent going down in a well-played 4. Mrs Kingscote had a splendid chance at Terra Nova, where she was on the edge of the green with her second, while Miss Beadel was bunkered on the right, but she fluffed her third and secured only a half. Miss Beadel, winning the ninth in 3, was 4up at the turn. She increased her lead at Upshot with a per-fectly-played birdie 4, and also won O'Borke's in 5. Then Mrs Kingscote returned to the attack and won The Pines in a well-played 4, and halved Old Nick in 3. Miss Beadel's second shot at Shirley went in and out of tho bunker to the right of the green, but inaccuracy on the green lost Mrs Kingscote the hole. The fifteenth was halved in 4; Miss Beadel won Pagoda in 6, Mrs Kingscote having found the- creek with her second. After many vicissitudes, both in the bunker and in the creek, Mrs Kingscote put her approach beside the pin at the seventeenth, and as Miss Beadel had struck trouble in the rough she won the hole in 6, and Went on to reduce her leeway by winning the last hole, Miss Beadel striking a tree with her drive and landing in the bunker. Miss Beadel was now 5 up. Afternoon Bound. In the afternoon both players holed out for sat the nineteenth. Miss Beadel won Briggs's in 4, but lost Muggeridge's, her third lipping the cup, while Mrs Kingscote scored a neatlyplayed 3. Land's End provided one of the few; dramatic incidents of the day. Both players had good drives and good brassie shots; then the sand-bunker on the left onco more exercised its fatal fascination on Miss Beadel. She went into the bunker with her third, was on the green with her fourth, and with her fifth she stymied her opponent, about eight inches from the hole. Mrs Kingscote, who had played 5, took her niblick and. neatly chipped the ball into the hole, her adroitness winning the ap.plause of the spectators. Miss Beadel resppnded by winning Farthest North in < four, making her, 6 lip, Then Mrs Kingscote put .pp a great fight against longodds# succession were' halved, Maifenau.iri 5, -Nor '-West in 5, Terra Nova in 6, and Crossways in, 3, Mrs Kingscote making; a fine recovery' .after having bjoen bunkered with her tee-shot. Miss Beadel went out in 42 and Mrs Kingscote in 44.. Upshot and O'Borke's were halved in 6 and 5 respectively. , At The Pines both players had good driveß, ! and Miss Beadel put hter approach a foot from the pin, holing out in a birdie 3 to her opponent's 4, and winning the match 7 and 6.

Nojes on the Play. •Both players drove "well almost throughout the game, but .iii the morning round Mrs Kingscote frequently failed with her second shot. In the afternoon she was steadier, but Miss Beadel's approaching was for the most part deadly, and.with only an occasional lapse she putted well. The Players' Record. Miss Beadel has now won the club championship six times. Her first sue-: cess was in 1923; in 1924 Miss Cracroft Wilson was champion, but Miss Beadel regained the title in 1925, but lost it to Miss Dorothy Chrystall-in 1926.
