FOREIGN COMPETITION DECRIED. Advice that a' sub-coiiiniii>lee " had been set up to investigate the position of foreign shipping in the Pacific, with particular regard to tho competition of the Matson' line, was received from the executive of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand by the Council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce at> its meeting last night. . . "The sentiments expressed s by tJio executive were in favour of the. V ro T tection of British shipping against foreign- competition, as instanced by the present case of the Matson ' me > advised the secretary (Mr A. O. Heany). The sub-committee would give further consideration to the subject when "certain material under preparation had been completed.
