MAGISTERIAL. FRIDAY. (Before Mr E. D. Motley, 8.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Anthony Shannon, aged 54, a labourer, who pleaded guilty to a fourth offence of drunkenness within six months, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. THEFT. Phillip Sydney Walker, mo tor-driver, Kaikoura, aged 21, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a pair of boys' boots, the property of the New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Association, of Leeston, at Parnassus, on May . . Detective-Sergeant J. B. Young said that a parcel of boots bad been left at a City garage to be sent out to Leeston. Walker had then been a service-car driver to Parnassus, and on arrival there he had found the {parcel in the c?r and had taken one pair from it. Walker was admitted to probation tor • term of two years. i \ CONVERSION OF A CAB* Alfred Leonard Sheedy, alias Alfred Leonard Lumb, a labourer, aged 18,. and Mervyn John Ellis, a labourer, aged 17, pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawfully converting to their own use, on August 27th, a car valued at £350, the property of Alister Young. ■ I Senior-Sergeant J. Fox said that, in response to a telephone call, a constable had gone to the front of theJellicoe Hall and had seen the two youths In the, car trying to start it.' They had run off at hit approach, but he had arrested one of them-after a chase which ended in the river. .The other youth was later arrested at his home. LEESTON. (Before Mr H. A. Young, S.M.) In the case between Duncan McFarlane (Mr A. S. NichollB) and Robert Q. Wallace (Mr A. S. Lyons), a claim for rent and possession of a farm property at Lakeside, yhich had been adjourned from the July sitting, Mr Lyons applied for a further adjournment for a month. The Magistrate granted the adjournment, with £1 Is costs against defendant. Judgment was given for plaintiffs by default in the following cases:—Springs-Elles-mere Power Board v. W. J. Ballooh, £lB lis 9d and costs; E. Doyle' v. 0. Humphries, £4 13s; H. A. Brown v. King, £1 8s and costs; E. Carter v. G. Ridden, £3B 8s fid, claim for wages. For failing to report an accident in which he and his car were concerned, George Ridden, who did not appear, was fined 80s and costs. in 8. Britliff (Mr Lyons) v. J. R. Button (Mr Quigley), counsel for defendant applied for a change of venue, which the Magistrate refused. An. adjournment to September 25th was made.
