PERSONAL. (SPECIAL 10 THIS PBBSS.) GBEYMOUTH, August 28. Mr and Mrs P. J. McLean left yesterday on. holiday to Christchurch. Inspector P. J. McCarthy, who has been visiting the West Coast, returned yesterday to Invercargill. Mr and Mrs E. Orr left yesterday on holiday to Duntdin. Miss O. Gray (Levin) is visiting the West Coast. Mr and Mrs J. S. Vial left yesterday on holiday to Christchurch. Miss M. O'Donnell returned yesterday after spending a holiday in Christchurch. Mr T. E. Coate's left yesterday on a visit to Christchurch. The Rev. Father O'Connor, S.M., of the staff ;of St. Bede >6 College, Christchurch, who has been spending a holiday in Greymouth has returned. Obituary. The death occurred at Bunanga yesterday after a short illness of Mrs Margaret Muncaster, aged 69 years-Sho , had been sixty-six years on the West Coast having first gone to Brunnerton. For the last 23 years she had resided in Bunanga where her husband cued seven years ago. She -leaves one son and four daughters. Paparoa Mine. A new agreement has been made between the Paparoa Mine and its< employees at Boa. The new agreement is to be in force for twelve months. Some alterations have been made, but the rate of wages remains the same. The mine employs forty-six men. Maori Footballers. The members of the Maori football team were, taken on a visit or inspection to the Bellvue Mine at TenMile yesterday. One of the party fired a shot at the face. The manager of the team thanked Mr J. D. Lynch and the manager and tnen * or , the ?P* portunity of seeing the manner m which coal was won. On Wednesday evening the team vere the guests of the West Coast Rugby Union at a dance in their honour. There was a large attendance.
The Mines. The Dobson Mine did not work yesterday owing to shortage of ordora. The State Mines were working. Schools Competition. The prize-winners of the Grasslands Knowledge Competition, in which school children from many parts of the Dominion took part, include some West Coast school children, Eileen Hill and Doreen Baker, working in conjunction, at Dobson School, winning a second -prise of ss, and Doreen Thomson, or Dobson School, winning third prize. Automobile Association. The annual report of the Greymouth branch of the Canterbury Automobile Association states that considerable progress in opening up roads was made last year. Several bridges werS completed and motorists were enablpd to traverse districts which a few years ago were inaccessible to any vehicles.
