MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Mr H. A. Young, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Judgment was given by default in the following civil cases:—Morris Scot* v. J. McLean, £2 2s sd; Forbes, Ltd., v. H. Pool, £l2 lis 3d. Ellen Petrie proceeded against her husband, James Petrie, for arrears of maintenance amounting to £154 ss, and also applied for a separation' order. The. order was granted and defendant was ordered to pay olf tho arrears at the rate of 10s per week in addition to current payments, in default three months' imprisonment in Wellington gaol. John William Thomas Laming was charged with being on licensed premises at a time when such premises wero required to be closed.

Sergeant W.. II.; Dnnlop said defendant had taken a Sumner, girl, under 16 years of age, for a motor ride on a Sunday. He called at the hotel at Governor's Bay and brought out a bottle of wine. The girls mother had complained, to the police. . The Magistrate said he would impose the maximum penalty of £2, with costs J 3s, and witness's expenses 10s. . Vandalism in Cemeteries. It was reported to the police about two weeks ago that considerable damage liad been done to wreaths and kerbiugs in the Public Cemetery. In one instance five valuable artificial wreaths on one grave had been damaged almost beyond recognition, and hardly a wreath escaped in the upper part of the cemetery. Shortly.after five o'clock on Tuesday evening a resident of Ripon street, whoso section adjoins the Church of England Cemetery, heard glass being smashed in the cemetery. The resident investigated and discovered two small boys busily engaged in throwing st «nes at the glass covers of wreaths. The boys were aged 7 and 9 years respectively, and on being questioned by the police admitted causing the damago in both cemeteries. The total damage is estimated at about £6O.
