SHOUTED DOWN.
UPEOAR AT MEETING. SPEAKERS REFUSED A HEARING. Organised opposition, which developed from a barrage of interjections to pandemonium, met the municipal candidates of the Citizens' Association last evening in the Rolleston Street Hall. So difficult was it for speakers to make themselves heard above the din that the later ones, including Mr "YV, Hayward, the candidate for the Mayoralty, did not attempt it. A policeman was in attendance iu the early stages, and his presence had eome effect in quietening the rowdier of the opposition element, who were well distributed among the 150 peoplo present. Mr H. Holland, M.P., who presided, arid Mr J. W. Beanland were able to speak without much difficulty, Mr T. Milliken made himself heard by using his voice at full strength, but Mr 3. R. Hayward and Mr W. R. Smith, who followed,' were subjected to continual interruption. Catcalls, counting out, and shouted . interjections made further speeches impossible. A number of the disturbers were members or supporters of the Communist Party.
