John Callinan, Edward Conaidine, and John McQuillan, charged with being on.thd licensed premises of the Oxford Hotol after hours, were each fined 20s and costs. For supplying liquor to a person apparently under the age of 21, Mortimer Patrick Corliss, licensee of the New Brighton Hotel, was convicted and discharged. For selling liquor after hours he was fined £8 and costs, and for opening premises for. the sale of liquor after hours was convicted and discharged. Frances Coriiss, a person other than the licensee of the New Brighton Hotel, was fined £5 and costs for supplying liquor to a person apparently under the age of SI, and was convicted and discharged on a charge of supplying liquor at a- time'when premises were' directed to. he closed. Katharine Julia Mackay (Mr C. S. Thomas) wac fined £2 and costs for sending a person under the age of 21 years to licensed premises for liquor.

THEFT OF DRESS. Elsie Edith Patrick, aged 19, waa charged with stealing a dress valued at £llss os, tlin property of Nina Mary MoHwraith. Chief-Detective 7. Carroll said the accused had been employed at a house as a nursemaid, and when she .left took the dress away with her. Mi- A. J. Malley, who appeared for the aocused, said that spite seemed to have been the motive for the theft. Patrick was con/vioted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months, and during that period _to moke restitution of £1 15s 6d. Chief-Deteotive Carroll eaid the accused had gone to a woman who was in poor circumstances and taken a room in. her bouse. Aooused told her he was in the Post Office and had just been ' transferred from Timaru. He did not pay and the woman became suspicious. Norman Bruce Stewart, a labourer, aged 84 (Mr W. J. Stacey), and Edward Petty, a miner, aged 80, were charged with behaving in 'a disorderly manner in Manchester street.

Sergeant D. Hyland said the two men had been singing, and dancing on the. pavement. Both aocused were fined £2 and costs, in default 14 days' imprisonment with hard labour. ASSAULT. James Hopkins (Mr C. 8. Thomas) was charged with assaulting Alice Ann Womersley and with being a rogue and vagabond in that he was found by night in the enclosed premises of a block of fiats in the City. Sergeant D. Hyland said the aocused had gone into the building and knocked at the door of a flat and asked if a Mr Gosling lived there. A woman answered the door, and after some conversation he had taken hold of her arm. On the charge of assault, Hopkins was fined £3 and costs, in default 14 days' imprisonment.'
