BRIDGE NOTES.

* HELP FOR PLAYERS AND BEGINNERS. (STECIALLT WRITTEN *OR THE TKBSS.) !Rv Wn.r.jAM Shackle.J Belotv will be found six hands, which require a bid from either A, B, Y, or ■Z. Next week I will give a further six hands, which will complete this article. I propose making these questions into a competition, and there will be a prize of a very useful propelling pencil to the first four competitors who give the largest number of correct bids—according to my own list of how I should hid. Remember, 1 use the following conventions, all of which I have explained at various times in these Bridge Notes, i.e.: — (1 ) Bid of one of a minor suit on two aces. (2) Original bid of two oF a minor suit means weakness in that suitplus strength in each of the three remaining suits. (3) No trump in Robertson rule ot 21 point hand. (4) Informative doubles, when holding the three suits, other than the suit bid, equally strongly. (5) liaise or deny your partner at first opportunity. Rules: —(a) Entries for this competition close Friday, December 19th. (b) All entries to be sent to me, tare of The Press. (c) No competitor may send in more than ono solution to each hand. No correspondence can be entered into respecting my solutions. They are naturally mv own, and there can be no question of being "correct," as there is no set rule as to "correct" bidding at any time. However, I shall be only too pleased to answer any queries, relative to them, as far as possible in this column, or. if a stamped addressed envelope is enclosed, directly through the post. The result of this competition will be published in this column Saturday, December 57th, and I snail hope to have sent the pencils in time for them to be delivered by Father Christmas. Hand No. 1.
