SWIMMING.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS' CARNIVAL. MANY EVENTS HELD. The task of conducting 38 events and controlling over 200 swimmers was carried out •with success last evening at tho Tepid Baths when tho swimming carnival for pupils oi Christchurch primary schools was held under tho auspices ot tho Canterbury Primary Schools' Sports Association. With the large number of entries and the many races, tho tact that tho carnival was run to time and without a hitch was creditable to the teachers who were in control. Many of the schools in Christchurch now have baths of their own, and as a const<l uenco opportunity is provided for more training in this sport than has been tho case in tho past, and tho results were noticeable in the fine racing which was witnessed. In many instances, in both boys' and girls' events, there were swimmers well above the average, and easy styles were possessed by a few very good swimmers. Most promiuent in all events was a girl from tho Phillipstown School, Rhoda Lowe, who was far superior to other girls, and who swam in many races with distinct success. Her swimming gavo Pliitlipstown the majority of places. Tho boys' races were very interesting, nnd tho Sydenham and Elmwood Schools supplied several of the best swimmers of the evening in IC. Norton, A. Gosney, and E>. S. Thomas. 1!.
