LEVEL CROSSINGS.
WARNING DEVICES. (PRESS ASSOCIATIOST TELEGBAII.) IN VERC ARGILL, December 5. At the quarterly meeting of the South Island Motor Union to-day, * discussion took place on the following remit from the South Canterbury Automobile Association: "THat the Government be approached with a view to standardising warning devices at railway level crossings.' 1 The General Manager of llailways forwardfed particulars of future signals to road traffic, one being a hand warning signal, given by holding up" the hand. This latter signal Was declared .an absurd proposition, "and delegates were_ of the opinion that definite day and night devices should be aimed at. . It was decided that 'the question of other warning v .should bo referred to the executive to take what steps it considered advisable, after having inspected the signs in use.
