DEPARTED LEADERS.
A CANADIAN TRIBUTE. [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, December 5. "In memory of an honoured friend and fellow-citizen of the Empire," a wreath was laid on the tomb of Mr Massey this morning by Mr T. M. : Henderson, of Vancouver, 8.C., a retired wholesalo drug merchant, who is making his third visit to New Zealand in the interests of his health. The wrjgath was deposited on behalf of the Can adian Club of Vancouver, of which Mr Henderson is a member. It is also intended that a similar wreath shall be placed on the grave of Sir Joseph Ward at- the earliest opportunity. Mr Massey was entertained by the Canadian Club when he was passing through Canada. "Not only are we honouring the memory of these two statesmen in sending wreaths," said Mr Henderson, "but we hope that it may be regarded as a friendly gesture between sister Dominions, and will help to strengthen further the bonds of Empire." Mr Henderson was accompanied on his iriission by Mr A. W. Mulligan, representing the Prime Minister, Mr G. P. Newton, Under-Secretary for Internal Affairs, Mr P. J. Kelliher, Assistant Under-Secretary for Internal Affairs, and the Rev. David Calder. The wreath was placed on the tomb in silence by Mr Henderson, while the others stood around with bowed heads. After the ceremony the party descended into the mausoleum and the wreath was deposited near the casket.
