PIONEER SPORTS CLUB. FIXTURES. Dec. 13th —iuystery Competition. Feb. 1-lth —Grass Track Meeting. NOTES. The next sporting competition to bo hold by the Pioneer Sports Club is to be held to-morrow week, but the course and the conditions governing the competition -will remain a mystery until the competitors assemble at the club house. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs R. HI Parker, W. F. Marsh, C- Hayward, A. H. Haden, E. J. Bradshaw, and Mr Hockley has been set up to provide the "mysteries," so that something of a novel and interesting nature may be looked for. Post entries will be received for this event, and members will meet at the club house at 2 p.m. and proceed to the scene of action. The last competition of this nature was won by W. Kilday, a private owner, with L. E. Evans, a trade member, second out cf 17 starters.

Next Wednesday evening Mr Cecil Bonnington, donor of the coveted Bonnington Cup, has consented to screen several motion pictures in the club rooms depicting soenes visited by him during his travels abroad last season. The entertainment will commence at 8 o'clock, when there should be a "capacity house." The club hopes at an early date also to screen many of the most important motor-cycle sporting events held in the Old Country last season; these should prove of considerable interest to members. The following committee has been appointed to draw up the second halfyearly programme of the Pioneer Sports Club:—Messrs R. H. Parker, T. R. McCleary, M. P. Jones, W. F. Marsh, A. H. Haden, C. Hayward, and ~E. J. Bradshaw. It is expected that -the .programme • will provide fo'r several "light car competitions in conjunction with the usual motor-cycle events. These will be'published at an early date. The Opotiki Club has issued an exceptionally good programme for its grass track meeting to be_ held on Boxing Day, the chief handicap event being the "Jack Arnott Memorial" handicap of ten miles, open to all classes, for-which prizes aggregating

brqadsiding. What promises to be a thrilling contest will be the inter-provincial match between Canterbury and Otago at jVJonica Park to-morrow night. The C anterbury team will consist of P. Lunn, K. Marsh, C. Blacklock, J. Carter, K. G. Pyke, and S. Russell, ir i»» ° ta S° representatives will be H. Mangliam, A. Pratt, A. Blair. A. lJait, J. Young, and I). Miller. Two certainties for the Canterbury team would have been Norman Gray and Jack Hove. Unfortunately, Gray has decided to raco no more, and an accident to Jack Hore, resulting in his breaking a collarbone, will put him on the bank for some time. In order to see which man should go into the Canterbury team to race against Otago, a match was decided at the Speedway on Tuesday between S. Russell and Neale. Tho first raco resulted in a dead-heafc and in the second event Russell won in the remarkably good timo of lmin 23 4-osec. The previous best time was registered last season by Marsh, who did the distance in lmin 24 2-osec. It is interesting to note that on Saturday night last P. Lunn's time when lie won the Gold Helmet race was lmin 24 4-ssec. Bert Jones, an Australian star, who has appeared at Homo and on the

Continent, passed through Christchurch yesterday on his way to Dunedin, where ho will appear to-morrow night. Bert ITnwin, another overseas visitor, will also ride in Dunedin tomorrow. Both men will be seen on the Monica Park Speedway to-morrow week. Until recently Jones held the quarter mile record for the Speedway lloyal, Sydney. It is hoped that one- of the main attractions at the Monica Park Speedway on December 20th will bo two of the English cracks who are duo to arrive shortly in the Dominion. Wally Thomas, Alec Smith, "Shorty" Wicks, and Chris. Kennedy left yesterday for Dunedin to appear tnere to-morrow night.
