RANGIORA PIONEERS. JUBILEE GATES OPENED. The Jubilee gates at the entrance of Dudley Park, which have been erected as a memorial to tlie pioneers of Bangiora, were handed over to the Mayor of the Borough (Mr C. S. Ayers) last evening, by Mr W. A. Rowse, chairman of the Gates Committee. In doing so, Mr Rowse said that when it had been decided to celebrate the Borough Jubilee, in October, 1928, the question of a suitable memorial was discussed, and it was decided to invite the local sports bodies to arrange a carnival and raise a, sufficient sum for the purpose. As a result of the carnival a sum of £270 was received, and this amount was spent on the gates. The gates were inado of wrought iron, hung on concrete pillars, and were very imposing. The Mayor, in accepting the gift, thanked the- committee for presenting the town with such a splendid memorial in remembrance of the pioneers, lie then invited Mrs Bowse to open the gates. Afterwards Mrs Bowso was presented by Mr Ayers, on behalf of the committee, with a golden key, in the torm of a brooch suitably engraved. Great interest was taken in the event. J. lie Rangiora band attended and played through the town to the gates, which are at the entrance of Dudley Park. After the ceremony several presentations were made. The secretary of the Jubilee Committee (Mr J. M. Fraser) was presented by Mr. Bowse, on behalf of the committee, with two books, in recognition of his work. As president of the band, Mr Bowse also presented to the Borough Council an enlarged framed photograph of the Kangiora Band. _ The Mayor received the gitt, on behalf of the Council, and at the same time congratulated the Band. A similar photograph of the band was presented bv Mr G. Harlow to Mr Bowse and Mrs" Bowse, for the interest taken by them in the Band.
