Nominations for the Westland Meeting close on Monday. The Oamaru Meeting. In connexion witli the Oamaru Jockey Club's Summer Meeting, to be held on Saturday, January 17th, it lias been considered advisable, in the interests of owners and trainers, to alter tho nomination date from December 19th to January 6th. Handicaps will appear about January 9th, and acceptances will close on January 12th. Will be at Ellerslie. Nightmarch was again allotted easy work the reverse way at Biccarton yesterday. He is practically certain to attend the Auckland Meeting, and 'will bo accompanied by True Shaft.

Tor Wingatui. Amorist has been in steady work since the New Zealand Cup Meeting, and B. Liongley hopes to race him at the Dunedin Summer Meeting. A Favoured Bracket. Lord Thomond and Painkiller will both be produced in the Winchmore Hack Handicap at Ashburton to-morrow, and will be bracketed on the machine. The former will bo ridden by A. E. Ellis, and L. J. Ellis will have the mount on Painkiller. Bred to Gallop. The name of Fortbow appears among the acceptors for the Jjagmhor Plato at Ashburton. This should bo Tautbow, Mr J. S. Barrett's two-yoar-old gelding by Arrowsmith from Dame Straitlace, who has shown marked promise in his track essays to date.

Riccarton Training Notes. Conditions were again favourable for training operations at Biccarton yesterday. The inside of the trial grass was open, but most of the work, was confined to the plough. There 'were some interesting gallops in view of the Ashburton Meeting to-morrow, while other Jiorses booked to race at later fixtures got through useful tasks. On tlie Plough.

Spoon strode over six furlongs in lmin 19 l-ssec, and Ball Dress was well clear of Owlsflighfc at the end of a similar journey in lmin IDsec. Paquito, with Shatter for a mate for about six furlongs, covered a mile in lmin 46 2-ssec, going at an even paco throughout and finishing better than his companion. Footfall, with D. O'Connor in. the saddle, moved freely in a mile task, taking lmin 47 3-ssec. He will make a good showing in his engagement to-mor-row in spite of his solid impost. Full Feather and Straightcourse ran home half a mile in 51 3-ssec, and Sharp Thorn and Umpire followed in 52 1-Osec. Craigavon was sent from the sevenfurlong post, and, assisted by Coroner over the last five, recorded lmin 32sec for the journey. Sleipner and La Pompadour finished practically on terms at the end of half a inile in 50sec. First Sight strode over six furlongs comfortably in lmin 19sec, time that was equalled by .Fresh Breeze and Homecoming. Beau Geste was restricted to threequarter pace. He moved scratchily in the early part of his work and will not be favoured by the Ashburton track. Solwit and Baino ran half a mile in 52 2-ssec, the last three in 38 2-ssec. Count Cavour with close on nine stone up, created a pleasant surprise by wearing Gustavo down over the concluding furlong of a seven-furlong gallop and beating him decisively in lmin 30 2-ssec. Coll gave Proud Knight weight and beat him over five furlongs in lmin 3 3-ssec. The former promises to turn out a reasonable purchase for his Greymouth owner.

Bavine went smoothly over six furlongs, taking lmin 18 l-ssec. General Assembly had a slight advantage from Appeal after sprinting half a mile in 50 2-ssoc. Flair was credited with lmin 4 3-ssec for five furlongs, Minerval accompanying her over the first half-mile. Bulolo and Arrowmir were to have gone five furlongs together, but the former broke away and each accomplished the task in lmin ssec. On the Grass. The Baider, who is now trained by his owner, reeled off half a mile in 48 3-ssec, and finished on better than usual. Giggleswick showed further improvement by galloping five furlongs in lmin 2 2-ssec. Parysia and Lorette ran seven furlongs in lmin 31sec, finishing together. Lord Thomond, Painkiller, and Great Star were associated in a half-mile sprint along the back, the trio finishing in a bunch in 49 2-ssec. Painkiller carried about eight stone and gave each of the other pair weight. Sight Draft ran home four furlongs in 50 l-ssec, and Nightcap beat Knockany over the same ground in 52sec.

TROTTING NOTES. Reminders. Nominations for the Auckland Trotting Club's Summer Meeting close today at 5 o'clock, when final payments for the Great Northern Derby are due. Nominations for the Winton Trotting Club's Annual Meeting close to-day at 8 o 'clock. Hyallo Silk'a Mission. An interesting entrant for the Melrose Trot Handicap at Ashburton on Saturday is Nyallo Silk, by Silk Thread, who was successful in his iirst staA:t at the Wellington Meeting. Nyallo Silk ■won in .higli-grado fashion over a mile and a half, and on breeding and his easy manner of going the extra four furlongs may not unduly distress him.

New Zealand Gold Cup In View. D. Bennett is keeping Native Prince going with a view to contesting tho New Zealand Trotting Gold Cup, the principal event at the Wellington Trotting Club's Summer Meeting. The black stallion looks very well, and none the worse for his hard efforts at the New Zealand Cup Meeting, where he raced out of luck. Wilma Dillon. Since being recommissioned by W. J. Toinkinson, Wilma Dillon has come to hand very quickly, and it is probable that he will be racing again at holiday meetings. Ho worked two miles iu company with Morrison at Addington yesterday morning, but was not asked for his best. Stoney. The grey pacer Stoney arrived from Auckland recently, and has gone into D. Bennett's stable. He does not always choose to give of his best in liis races, or he would have been returned a winner by now. He has gone 4min 31 2-ssee. for two miles, and although handicapped well outside these figures has proved very expensive during the past twelve months. About Bough Voyage. Last season Rough "Voyage raced very promisingly, running a first and second in threo starts, his best performance being his second to Lorctta Napoleon in the Westland Trotting Club Handicap. He disappointed when supported in the right quarter at Wellington in the spring, but this was bis first and only outing of the present season, and he is bourn! to improve when next he sports silk. Young Trotter. E. C. McDermott is working at Addington a good typo of chestnut filly by Travis Axworthy from Sally wood, who goes at the trotting gait. This youngster was taken up last season, but it was deemed advisable to give it a bit more time, and the decision seems to have been a wise one, for the trotter has grown appreciably in the interim. While by no means perfect-gaited as yet, the filly can get over tho ground in fair style.
