Rov Gladstone Ewart pleaded not guilty to a charge that with intent tp delraud he attempted to obtain £OOO from the Phoenix Assurance Company bv allegedly falsely representing tlmi tH<s residue of the stock in bis jnercerv shop, at which a fire took place, was £9OO, whereus in faet it was only £9l, He was further charged witn making <i false declaration regard to in insurance claim and with allegedly reoeiving sums ranging from £2 2s to £6 10s from clients of NTossman and Co.. furriers, chureh, ftnd failing; to account for them, thus committing theft. Ho pleaded not guilty. Several similar theft charges involving sums below £- woi-4) adjourned pending tbfl Supreme Court sitting to 'which accused was committed for trial on tlici major counts.
