A. AND P. SHOW.

W AIM ATE. A CREDITABLE EXHIBITION. (SPSGXXX. TO THS TB.BSS.) ■ WAIMATE, November 18. The "Waimate A. and P. Association's 49th annual 6bow was held to-day. The weather was fine and there was a large attendance. The quality of the exhibits, was fully up to the usual standard. Tho entries lotalled 7*e, against 737 last year. The arrangements for the show were well executed by the president (Mr A. W. Barnett) aud the secretarv (Mr A. J. HoskinsJ, assistc-d by a capable committee. In tuo sheep scctiou, J. A. Johnstone, who carried oil trie znaiw and tVmale Cornedaic • •nampjonsnip at L'hrigtciiurcD, repeated the performance here, his principal competitor being C. ii. Johnstone, wlio, however, secured a first and & second in the l<-4 months male ciafts, and a in the class 18 to 30 months. The local breeder in Border Leicester*, 11. Uuddeukiau, who was also a prize-taker at Cnristchurch, was a big exhibitor, and competition was between him and A. Ward, though K. Parry, jun., secured two firsts. A. M. Copland did not patronise this section to any extent th.s year, though he contested the flocic ram hogget competition with K. Ruucienkluu. the latter winning the cup. A. M. Copland got the v h c ticket. English Leicesters and Soulhdowna classes brought forward no entries, while Romneys were poorlv supported, F. G. Brown's rain taking the'blue ribbon, and C. H. S. Johnstone's entry securing the reserve. There were, few entries of fat sheep, though some nice | animals were penned by W. G. Thomson, A. \Y. Barnett. and A. Jones and Son. Com* petition was lceen, however, in fat lambs, and the quality of the prize-takers was high. Sheep judging and wool classing were again popular features, many young farmers contesting these useful classes. There were very fair entries of sheep dogs, and some useful animals were shown. J. Briggs, a local breeder, had to divide honours in the Berkshire pig class this year with Waitaki Boys* High School, which sent forward some excellent specimens. Anions Jersey cattle George Dellow captured the championship in the three-year-old hull class with Pelmdale Pouraise Lad. IX Kennedy took the reserve championship. He also captured the young bull clashes, the championship for eow in milk, dry cow, two heifer classes, and the class for cow with progeny. In Friesians. A. fi. El worthy, a prominent "winner fvt Christchurch, divided the prizes with J. Briggs, taking the bull championship and the .ow and heifer award*. J. Briggs captured the young bull award, eow in milk, and the two heifer prises. A. Jones and Son monopolised the fat stock section. No Shorthorns or Ayrshires were shown. The district's reputation for Clydesdales was well maintained by the quality of this section to-dav, the judge remarking that the champion yearling Ally was outstanding, while the geldings generally were a very fine class. Unfortunately ther* was a decline in the entries, and competition in each class was poor. Hacks brought keen rompetition. the prires goingr mainly to J. M. Shaw, Miss B. Harper. Miss J. Edgar Jones. W. B. Clarkson, and Cameron. The events for hunters were keenly contested •by large fields, even larger than those of last Competitors were present from far afield, hut local horses more than held their own. The award for the best jumper on the ground went to J. Waldie'a Bandana. W. B. Clarkson'* Th* Cossack being allotted second place. The classes of particular interest to the fair sex wore very popular, and it was noteworthy that the quality of pupils' cookinc. of which there were many entries, was in many cases on a par with that of tho adults' cooking. A particularly interesting feature was a thrift exhibition by Women's Institutes. This attracted much attention, no fewer

than nineteen Institutes throughout Canterbury contributing towards this unu*iH%l feature. , 3?esuHj?:— - SHEEP. COBRIEDAJ^BS. (Judge; Mr W. Anderson, Waiau.) Ram, over :i0 months (3): J. A.
