FIRE BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting 01 the Christchurch Fire Board was held last night, when Mr J. It. Cameron preside J. Also present were Messrs E. H. Andrews, T. 11. Butterfield, T. M. Charters, J£. Parlane, K. W. Robinson, and H. ft. ttusbridge. The financial statement showed receipts amounting to £5044 6s Bd, wliitili included deposits in the bank amounting to £4033 lGs fed, contributions from insurance companies £71)0 I.ls 6d, retaining fee from the Wnimairi County Council £ll2 l()s, and the a tie duties £B2 9s. Payments amounted to £l7lO 6s 2dt, including tvages for tile permanent staff amounting to £1133 12s, and leaving a credit balance of £8334 Os 6d Cashmere Pumping Station. The Canterbury Fire and Accident Underwriters' Association wrote drawing attention to the statement made by the City Engineer that the standby piant &t Caßbniere pumping station is in f< delapidated condition rnd of insufficient capacity in the event of n breakdown in the electric pumping i'htnt. llie Board, after a short discussion, decided to write to the Christehurcli City Council stating that the Board viewed with alarm the position at the Cashmere pumping station ns disclosed by the City Engineer's report. Publicity Not Wanted. The Canterbury Fire and Accident Underwriters' Association and the London and Lancashire Insurance Company , each wrote protesting against ths publicity given to the names of insurance companies and the amount of the risks held following outbreaks of fire reported to the nevspcijerfl. It was decided to reply that unless it was considered that such matters should be taken in committee, they Wotiid be dealt with in open meeting end open for publication. Tt was further decided to point out to the London and Lancashire Insurance Company that its statement that information was given to the Board out of courtesy was tiot Correct. Under section 69 of the Act it was compulsory for insurance companies to give nil information available to any officer of the Board requesting it. ~
