annual synod. During this week the annual Synod of the Methodist Church of North Canterbury will meet in Durham street Church, the ministers dealing with questions relating to candidates for the ministry, and probationers, while the lay representatives will be associated with them 011 Wednesday and Thursday to discuss general Church business. Reports from Boards and Committees connected with various institutions, funds, etc., will be considered, and recommendations made to the conference which meets in Duncdin in February. The Rev. A. N. Scotter, president of the New Zealand Conference, and chairman of this district, will preside, and the Rev. A. 11. Fowles will act as secretary. A public social gathering for the Synod will bo held on Tuesday evening.
