Hunt, S.M., at tho Magistrate's Court charged with assaulting George Saunders, patrol-officer of the Kiagara, on the hign seas. Accused was iurther charged with stowing away on the Niagara at Sydney last Thursday, tie pleaded guilty to both charges. , Patrol-Officer Saunders said ho was called to the purser's office in the ship j at 7.15 last Thursday night, after the ship had cleared Sydney. Brod- ] wick was handed over to witness to be locked up. He refused to go with witness, and he made use of abusive and obscene language. He made a swing and rushed at witness, who had then to use forcible methods to make the accused secure in a cabin. "I went to the bridge to report the matter to the master, and on returning to the cabin found Brodwick had kicked a panel out of the door." added 'witness. Brodwick told the Magistrate ho did not remember anything of the assault, because he was under the influence -of liquor. On.the stowing away charge ho was fined £7, or 14 dnys' imprisonment, arid on the other £2, or seven days' imprisonment, the sentences to be cumulative.
