Board of Gor-» eniors has accepted the tender of th® , Fletcher Construction Company for the erection of the first (section of the College Hostel made possible by the generosity of Mr William Weir, wbo died in September. 1926. Mr. Weir, tvho was a resident of Wellington for over fifty years, provided in his will for the payment to the College Council, after the deduction of death duties and about £9OOO for other bequests, of half the residue of his estate for the purchase of a sito and the erection of » hostel for men students, and for the remainder of the estate to be lodged with the Public Trustee in trust for the Council. The site acquired in Salamanca road is the property formerly occupied by the residence of the late Mr Martin Kennedy, and is regarded as an ideal one for the purpose, for it is well sheltered, sunny, and takes in a wonderful view of the city and harbour, and it is conveniently situated 'within a few minutes' walk of the College. The site is, moreover, sufficiently. large to allow for the building in the future of two hostel blocks and of another wing to the first block.
