Macdonald appeared for the Canterbury Employers' Association, Mr lv Parlane for the Drivers' Union, and ,Mr H. YVorrall for the Labourers L'nion. The County Council was represented by M r J.' lieslop (chairman), and Mr Wright (clerk). Mr Macdonald said the position of the Council was slightly different from that of others which were already parties, but there seemed no doubt that it would have to be covered. One .or two minor points had !>een covered in a conference with Mr Parlane. The men had usually been given a dav off for both the local and Christchurch Shows, and he asked whether the reference in tho award was to the district or Metropolitan Show. The Judge said it was evident that the district show was meant. The men might work on the da.y of the Christchurch Show, but in that event tliev would receive only ordinary rates. The Council was added as a party to the drivers' award, with this understniiHirisr. In reference to the labourers, Mr Macdonald said that Ellesmere Countv Council was in exwHlv the same position as Sprinss and Akaroa. Mr Worrnll asked whether the clause in the award binding local bodies not to discriminate against unionists was acceptable. The countv representatives agreed that such a elnuse would he observed. The Court then ndd"d the Council to the labourers' award, on the same conditions as apply to Springs and Akaroa.
