A HIGHLY EFFICIENT SERVICE IS MAINTAINED BY AN . . EXPERT STAFF. Entirely devoted to the service of those in immediate need of hospital attention, and- having as its primary duty the care of the sick and injured, the Ch'ristchurch Free Ambulance Society (Inc.), which is now firmly established in the- City, has already accomplished much valuable work in the short time that it - has been operating. Having a definite aim and also a firm understatading in the working of a free ambulance system, coupled with years of experience and expert firstaid knowledge, those in charge-are able to make the institution the capable and efficient organisation that it is. Although the ambulance, which was started by a. private citizen, has only been in existence since 'October 15th, up till "which date the only ambulance service in operation in Christchurch was one for which payment was expected within one month of its being put into, commission, the motor has travelled over 600 miles on efrands of mercy, taking cases to. the Hospital free of charge. At the head of the Society is a thoroughly experienced and competent superintendent, with power of control a®d ability to accomplish general routine work, and he is backed by an exceptional staff of keen, energetic men. It has been made a part of the policy of the. Society not to cater specially for any particular section of the community such as attending race, meetings or football matches, but should accidents occur on any sports ground the ambulance will arrive there within a few minutes of receipt of a telephone call. Ambulance collectors carry with, them a signed card giving" them authority to collect on the Society's behalf, and it is requested that patrons and subscribers should ask for an official receipt when giving moneys to the fund. Any profits that the Society makes will be devoted to an expansion .of the service. All people, whether they are subscribers or not, are entitled to free ambulance service, and the ambulance will answer a call anywhere in the Canterbury district, day or night. At the headquarters a free dressing station for the use of anyone not seri..'ously. hurt - is*- . provided, and outpatients will be attended to day or night. Dialling 37-700 will put anyone into communication with a free "and highly efficient service. 8
