PAPANUI NEWS.

The Trait Crop. Local orchardists have had a very anxious time during the past fortnight. The -majority of the crops are just at a stage that it would not take a very severe frost to ruin them. A good many orchardists have taken precautions this year and have installed oilpots. On two mornings during the past fortnight the frost was severe enough to make one or two growers light fires, and in some cases set the pots alight. According to a grower who has installed 400 pots in his orchard, to protect the fruit in this way entails considerable expense. Besides the labour involved, the oil for two hours' burning costs over £l2. Complimentary Social. A complimentary social was tendered Mr O. M.
