Tides. It will be high tide at 11.34 a.m. and 11.44 p.m. on the beach to-day, and at 12.18 p.m. and 12.28 a.m. on Sunday, in the river. To-morrow: 12.30 p.m. and 0.36 a.m. on the beach, and 1.14 p.m. and 1.20 a.m. in the river. Methodist Bible Classes. • ver y enjoyable concert was given m the New Brighton Methodist Hall by the Shirley Rawhiti Club. Under the direction of the captain (Mrs Todhunter), the club gave a varied and amusing programme, which for the most part consisted of playettes, acted with skill and ability. Many items were encored. The concert was in aid of the Intermediate Girls' Bible Class, and under the direction of Mrs A, Bonningfcon all arrangements were well made. The performers were thanked for their fine programme by Mr E. E. Holloway. Personal. The Rev. 0. S. Pearn has accepted an invitation to St, Peter's, Invercargill, and will leave New Brighton next March. Good Templars. The fortnightly meeting of Union Temple, No. 10, was held in the Band Hall, New Brighton, Chief-Templar Bro. Prank Pocock presiding over a good attendance. The following officers were installed for the ensuing quarter; Chief templar, Bister Agnes Payne; Vicetemplar, Sister May Lundberg; secretary, Sister Rita Cattermole; financial secretary, Bro. Prank Ronnie; treasurer, Bro. Tom Payne; chaplain» Bro. Gilbert Laird; marshal, Sister Muriel Lilley; guard, Bro. Laurie Hunt; sentinel, Bro. Douglas Morris; assistant-pecretary, Sister Mabel Matthews; deputy-marshal, Sister Pauline Lilley; past chief templar, Bro. Frank Pocoek. The superintendent reported that the Ever Onward Temple had been successful in winning the ritual competition, and the Lily of the Valley Temple had won Mr H. Teague'a trophy for indoor sports. Bro, Ford, of Sumner Pride Temple, conveyed the greetings of the Sumner and Redcliffg Temples, which wore heartily reciprocated. At the close of the Union Temple the Rawhiti Junior Lodge, No. 8, held itg regular meeting, three new members being initiated into the Order. The following officers were elected templar, Bro. Tom Payne; vice-templar, Sis. Dorothy Handley; secretary, Sis. Rita Cattermole; financial secretary, Bro. Tom Lilley; treasurer, Bro. Lauri® Hunt; chaplain, Bro. Gilbert Laird; marshal, Bro. Mabel Matthews. An invitation from the Hope of Christehurch Lodge to attend a mponlight picnic on November 26th was accepted with thanks. Free Kindergarten. A meoting of the committee of the New Brighton Free Kindergarten was held at the school. The following mem. hers were present:—Mrs J. Bellamy (in the chatr), Mesdames J. H. Goddington, A. H. Burtt, S. Napper, and Beardsley. Tho following members of the Mothers' Committee also attended;—Mesdatnos Henderson, Cant, Duffy, Hill, Carmalt, and McLaughlin. It was decided to thank Messrs Cant and Napper for assistance given by them. A report from the teachers (Misses N. parsons and I. Orange) showed the number on the roll to be 45, representing an increase of 13. > There was a marked improvement in the progress of the children. Arrangements were made to hold a final social and card evening on December 11 til. Beanland 20, Muirson 37. Efford 27, Marriott 15. .Tarden 22, Dean 21. Edgeware won three out of four rinks. Surfing. A committee meeting of the New Brighton Surf Club was presided over by Mr F. S, Taylor, The following were present:—Messrs A, L. Tucker, L. C. Mataon, W, 11. Benson, J. Broome, N. M. Smith, W. E. Qucree, H. S. Feast. A. Hughes, C A. Cooper H Tlirop, and O. A. G'auldwcll. Messrs C. A. Copper and W. 11. Benson were nominated as the club's delegates at the meeting to be called by the New Brighton Council to consider the question of providing patrolmen for the beaches for the coming season. Members stressed the necessity for % permanent patrol and stated that as there were suitable -patrolmen available this year every endeavour should be made to secure the necessary money for the patrol. Members spoke 'f the- gradually dwindling membership of the club, especially aa regards active members, and it was agreed to tnake a "drive" to secure more members. With that objaet in view Mr F, S- Taylor riioved, and Mr L. C. Matson seconded, that the five shilling entrance fee for senior members be not imposed fo the coming season. This was carried. Recommendations from the Canterbury Surf Association relative to standardising fltll intar-elub copmetitions, and : eliminating all land drill were referred to the Life Saving sub-committee. South Brighton. Mr A, E. Lawry presided at a well attended meeting of the South Brighton Gala Committee, Encouraging reports were received from Messrs F. Flood (sports committee), F. W. Lareombe (advertising committee), and J. Orsborn (organiser). It was decided to ask the New Brighton Borough Council to control traffic to and from Pleasant Point Oil Gala Uay; and for permission to hold a cycle race on the same day, to start from Hudson's corner and to finish at the Bea.tty street and Estuary road corner. Prizes for the race were given by Messrs W. J. Walter and F. Flood.

The Brighton Power Boat Club offered, at the request of the committee, to hold outboard motor races, a yacht M#6i and exhibitions of aquaplaning. A posal to hold a torchlight procession wag held over. It was decided tc call tenders for the right to have a tea luncheon tent at the • gala, a sub'Popimittee comprising the joint secretaries and organiser being deputed to draw lip thd conditions of the tend§r> with power to act. The secretary (Mr Woodward) reported that a Clxristchurch concert party had offered to give a concert. The offer was accepted with thanks, and the secretary was empowered to make arrangements. it was decided to ifiyite the Mayor of New Brighton (Mr J. H. Shaw), Mr D, Cf, Sullivan, M.P., ftnd Mr W, J» Walter, to attend the opening of the gals. Card Evenings. The Jsew Brighton Municipal B&nd conducted an enjoyable euchre tournament in the Band Hall, when there was a large attendance of members and supporters. The prize-winners were: Mesdames Frost, Hanna, and Whitely, Messrs Pocock, Merrett, and Buxton.

Among the prices to be competed for next Wednesday, will be an 181b ham. St. Faith's Church. A general meeting of parishioners of St. Faith's Church was held, the vicar, the Rev. T. M. Curnow, presiding over a large attendance. The present financial condition of the parish and the obligations to be met were explained by Mr F. Ward, people's warden, gnd on the motion of Mr S. Underhay, It was resolved that the Envelope and Collection Committee be revived. A strong committee was formed to place the financial position of the par* ish on a sound footing. yachting. The Pleasaqt Point Yacht 4nd B»»t Club will hold its first race for the Ostler Cup this afternoon, commencing from the Club's headquarters at Bridge street.
