PERSONAL. (SPECIAL TO THE P8133.) GBEYMOTJTH, November 13. Mr and Mr? S. Buddie (Christchurch) and Mr and Mrs A. Dunstan (Kurow), who have been visiting friends at Cobden, left this morning for We§tport and Nelson. Mrs W. Koper, who has been visiting relatives at Cobden, returned to-day to Chriatchureh. Mrs F. Sanderson left to-day for Duuediii, after sj>ending a holiday in Greymouth. _ ; Mr and Mrs S. Wylde (Punakaiki) left for Christchurch to-day. Mrs W. Williams and' Miaa R. Willlaintt (Cpbdeu) left for Christchurch to-day. ' t Advice has been received that Dr. Duncan Murdoch, of Hokitika, son of Mr J. A. Murdoch, has received an appointment in London. Wedding. The wedding took place at St. Paul's Methodist Church, this morning, of Lionel, eldest son of Ut and Mrs T. X). Burnett, Prebbleton, and Lena, second daughter of Mr and Mrs Arthur Goodall, Preston road, Greymouth. The Rev. Q\ E. Brown officiated. The bride wore a frock ©f whjtp celanege silk, vvith veil, end carried a bouquet of pink and White spring flowers. The bridesmaid, Miss Molly Goodall, sister of the bride, wore a frock of white celanese silk, with veil, and carried a bouquet of pink and white spring flowers. The flower-girls, Hazel and Dorothy Campbell, nieces of tho bride, wore frocks of mauve georgette. Mr Edward Goodall was- best man. After the ceremony a reception was held. Mr and Mrs Burnett left later for Christchurch and Timaru, on their honeymoon. Obituary. The death occurred at the Grey Hospital last night, of Mr Herbert William Plato, of Christehureli. Ho was employed as a porter in the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand Railways, ' and recently "arrived on a holiday visit

to Greymouth. He leaves a widow (a daughter of Mr McLaughlan, of Greymouth), and one child.

The death occurred at Westport yesterday of Mr Daniel Reedy, aged 60 yoars. He was a native of Mikonui, near Boss, for 20 years, before illhealth caused his retirement. Ho was wharf foreman for tho Westport Coal Company. > Examinations, The annual mines examinations for foremen, deputies, and underviewers will bo held at Wcstp6rt to-morrow. Fourteen candidates have entered. Rifle Slicoting. The first shoot of the Grey Defence Bifle Club, for the John Burns and Co.'s trophy, was concluded yesterday, at the Marsden range, and resulted in a win for Bifleman T. Garth, with a score of 06. Bifleman M. Garth was runner-up, with 94, and Bifleman P. Blanchflcld was next, with 03. Christchurch Trots. A special train to Christchurch this moaning, taking excursionists to see tho Trotting Cup final, left Greymouth with 186 passengers. Alleged Arson. William George Muir (30), married, appearod at the Police Court at Boss to-day, charged with arsqn. He pleaded not guilty, and was committed to the next Supreme Court sessions in Hokitika for trial. Bail was allowed. Magistrate's Court. A sitting of the Magistrate's Court was held yesterday at Westport, Mr W. Meldrum, 8.M., presiding. John Joseph Morris was charged that at Greymouth he received one greenstone pendant, the property of John Tennent, of Greymouth, and well knowing the pendant to have been unlawfully obtained. The police asked for a remand till Monday, to Greymouth, as other charges were pending. This was granted. Joseph Cowan .(Mr A. L. Black) was charged with using a motor-car (his private car) for a purpose other than was permitted under the Motor Insurance Act, 1928. Pleading guilty he was convicted and fined £2.

It was pointed out that where a. fare, or the equivalent of a fare, was charged,

it was necessary to insure the car as a taxi. The rate of premium for a taxi was higher than tot a private car.. School Committee. The committee of tho Reefton District High School met last evening. Present—Messrs W, B, Auld (chairman), H. Walsieben (secretary), Campbell, D. Panckhurst, T. W. Parsons, J. Patterson, Cleaver, N. Lawn, and C. Bobeon. The chairman- reported that Mr' P. J. McLean, Greymouth, had given a hardwood pole for use at y the giant' stride at the school. The gift was accepted with- thanks. It was decided to make representations to the Nelson Education Board for a couch for use at the school, as part of a first-aid outfit. It was resolved that all members of the committee should be a deputation to wait on Mr G. C. Black, M.P., regarding the construction of a new school at Reefton. Fire at Kumara. The bakery of Mr George Pannent, in Main street, Kumara, was completely destroyed by fire early yeßterday morning. There f was no insurance. It . is stated that rhe town water supply was off at the time.
