TROTTING NOTES.

i I Two Notable Performers. Mr H. F. Nicoll, owner, D. Warren, trainer, and M. Holmes, driver, established something of a record at Adding' ton yesterday, when the full brother and sister, Wrackler and Arethusa, won respectively the New Zealand Cup and the New Zealand Derby. When Mr H. F. Nicoll imported the stallion Wrack from America he entered into an arrangement with the owner (Mr W. H. Norton) of Trix Pointer t-< mate the mare with Wrack and share the progeny. Wrackler was the first foal, but, According to the rules laid down, the owner of the mare at time of foaling is the breeder, and Mr Norton owned Trix Pointer. Arethusa belonged to Miss P. Norton and was subsequently purchased by Mr Nicoll. Both Wrackler and Arethusa arc exceptional performers, and much of the credit is due to D. Warren, who handled both from the time they were foaled. Warren has proved himself a master with young horses, and amongst the classic victories to his credit may be mentioned .the New Zealand Sapling Stakes with Childe Pointer, Latona, Nantwich, and Arethusa; the Great Northern Derby with Nantwich and Wrackler, the New Zealand Trotting Stakes with Manhattan, and the New Zealand Derby with Childe Pointer, Wrackler, and Arethusa. Trix Pointer. Trix Pointer, the dam of Arethusa and Wrackler, is an American-bred mare, and was imported to New Zea-

THE DERBY ACCIDENT. In the New Zealand Derby yesterday, tho field liad travelled seven furlongs when a big smash occurred. Location broke up badly and Flying Cloud (F Holmes) and Uovnl Chenaujt (M. B. Edwards) fell, and Checkers dislodged his driver (It. B. Berry) from the sulky. The Judicial Committee of the Metropolitan Club Inst night held a long enquiry and came to the conclusion that the accidttnt was caused by M. Holmes, driver of Arcthusa, coming over too quickly and interfering with Location. It was decided to suspend the driving and riding licenses held by Holmes for six weolts. Maurice Holmes is one of the leading drivers and riders in New Zealand and has come into a good deal of prominence of late through his successes with Wrnckler and Arethusa. Both these horses arc engaged to-day, and probably P. 6. Holmes will be* asked to operate in his brother's place. I NEW ZEALAND HORSES RETURNING.
