OBITUARY.

MR W. C. MOORE

The death occurred this week at Gore, of Mr W. C. Moore, at the age of 61 years. Mr Moore was the second son of the late Mr and Ai; - W. C. Moore, of Moore's road, Waikiwi, Invercargill. Mr Moore was born at Invercargill and followed Farming purr suits for some years on bis parents' farm, later on taking up a position at the Ocean Beach freezing Works. Later' he became a Government meat inspector. He occupied positions at various centres, such ns Christchurch, Gisborne, Mataura, and Palmerston North, and then was appointed to Gore as meat inspector and inspector of dairies, which position he held practically up to the time 6f his death.

MR J. CRAWFORD ANDERSON.

One of the earliest and most widely known pioneors of Otago, Mr J. Crawford Anderson, died in Dunedin recently. During the last 50 years he oecupied a prominent position in South Otago as farmer, business man, local body mem> ber, and politician. In 1863-64 he attended the Otago Boys' High School, being orie of the pioneer pupils at that school. In 1887 he contested the Bruce seat for Parliament, in opposition to the Stout-Vogel Ministry, and was returned by a majority of 31 votes over Mr Donald Re id, jun., of Milton. Shortly before the close of his term he retired and cud not offer himself for reelection. He was a life member of the Clutha and Malau Agricultural and Pastoral Association, a member at the time of his death and for many years previously of the Clutha River Board, and had occupied positions as a director of the South Otago Freezing Company, a director and for a short time the secretary of the Stirling Dairy Factory, and as a member of the District Revision Commission in connexion with returnd soldiers' settlements.
