NEW "STOP" SIGNS AT CROSSINGS.

CRYSTAL GLASS LETTERING.

Within the' next fortnight new "stop" signs, with letters in crystal glass on a black background,' will be erected on each of the 20 attended railway crossings in and about Christchurch. The signs are now on hand at the Railway Dppartroent's offices, and will be issued as soon an the Department has made official notification of the change to tho public. Altogether about 50 will be ereoted in the South Island. The glass was imported from Great Britain, and the signs themselves each measuring about 2ft 01n by lOin. were made in the Department's own workshops. They are regarded as a considerable improvement on the present type, since the lettering shines brilliantly both by day and b* night. Th<' signs have been approved by motoring organisations in the North Island.
