WAiMATE. At a meeting of tho Waimate Borough Council there were present the Mayor (Sir G. Dash), Crs. W. G. Paul, J. Atwill, A. J. Kirby, G. F. Kichardson, M. J. Corrigan, A. J. iloskins, and T. W. Wylie. r l'lie Department of Internal Affairs wrote advising that legislation had been passed validating the Council's expenditure oa the jubilee celobrutious. The inspector of .Health reported having investigated one case of scarlet fever in the boruugu during October. The Waimate Retailers' Association wrote agreeing to close on Show Day, November lSlh from noon, and asking the Council to declare a half-holiday. There would* be an accident soon, he asserted. It was decided that the letter and Corrigan's complaint be referred to the police.

GERALDINE. At the monthly meeting of the Gerald*"® Borough Council there were present Mayor (Mr J. Kennedy), and Councillors R. Lack, W. A. Sherratt, E. hogan, A. J. Bell, C. C. Bennett, and J. "W. Miller. The engineer-secretary of lhe South Canterbury Power Board advised that from Friday, November 17th, street and community lighting would be switched on from sundown to midnight each day. Mrs K. E. Penrce, librnrian, reported that she had taken £4 15s 6d In subscription* during the month.
