KANGIORA. - At tile Ratigiora Police Court, bofore Mr C. I. Jennings, J.P., and Zvlr W. A. Rowso, J.I 3 ., judgment far plaintiffs by default was given iu the following cases: —Hawkins, Ltd., v. A. At prosent thoro are 3000 ou tlio way to tho Addington market. Largo numbers of young cattle aro also on the way south. A very enjoyable evening was spent at the residence t.( Mr and Mrs James Gibson, on the occasion of Mr R. Gibson's twenty-first birthday. There wero upwards of forty guests. A fair number of flat fish arc being netted in Ivaikoura waters at present flounders, soles, brill, and plaice.

HANMER SPRINGS. At the annual meeting of the Hanmcr Springs 'Volunteer Fire Brigade, Mn J. Ashton presided over a good attendance. The report and balance-sheet for the pa'st year were adopted. The chairman congratulated the Brigade on the past year's activities, and on the strong financial position. The election of officers for the coming year resulted as follows: —President, Mr James Ashton; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Hay; management committee: Messrs fl. Phillips, P. Brcckon; J. Manson, It. Herdman, 11. Koche, V. 13. Argclin; It. Kennedy, W. 13. Paterson, L. Anderson, E. Nich oils, Votes of thanks to the outgoing committee, and to Messrs P. Malaquin, J. Manson, J. Hay, and J. Ashton, were carried. It was decided to set up a sub-committeo to revise the iules, and to report to a special general meeting. Messrs J. Manson, J. Hay, and F. Malaquin wero elected for the purpose.

AMBERLEY. The W.E.A. class in opera and drama at Amberley closed the season with an enjoyable social evening at the residence of Miss Parsons. During the evening the class leader, Mr W. Foasey, thanked the members for their ready assistance and attendance, especially the ladies, for arranging for the class to meet at their Respective residences, in turn, and for providing supper, which arrangements greatly added to the undoubted success and enjoyment of the work. Appreciation of the course supplied by the W.E.A. and tho work done by the class leader was expressed by all tho members, and a hearty vote of thanks was passed to him for his efforts. It was unanimously decided to carry on tho class again next year.

SOUTHBROOK. Tho annual meeting of tte Southbrook Branch of the*W.C.T.U. was held in tho Methodist Schoolroom, when there was a good attendance. Mrs Thwaites occupied the chair and conducted th'e ordinary meeting. She gavo a resume of the business of the executive meeting held in Christchurch. Annual, reports were presented by the secretary and treasurer. These? showed the union to be in a satisfactory condition.' A" vote ot thanks was accorded the retiring officers. The election of officers for tho ensuing year resulted as follows President, Mrs C. It. Thwaites: vicepresident, Mrs S. Watkins; secretary, Mrs E. A. Williamson; treasurer, Miss M. Shepherd: evangelistic superintendent, Miss Wornall; L.T.L. superintendent. Mrs Thwaites ; assistants, Mrs Watkins and Mrs Williamson. One new member was initiated. There will be no more meetings of this union till after the Christmas holidays. STYX. The Stvx Preshvterian Ladies' Guild and Missionary Union held its annual meeting, when the Rev. Mr Wood presided. The following officers for the ensuing year were elected: President. Mrs R. M. Donaldson; vice-presidents, Mesdames Wood and Blain; secretary and treasurer, Mrs Dixon: harvest field secretary, Mrs Shaw: M.M'.B.L. secretary, Mrs Duke. The reports showed a membership of 42 for Harvest Field, and 50 for M.M.B.L. LINCOLN. The final meeting of tlie Lincoln Ladies' Basketball Club was held in the Lincoln School, when Miss B. Taylor presided over a fair attendance. It was decided to hold a picnic at Waikuku early in Deeember. The balance-sheet showed tho club to be well in fundsj It was decided to give £1 to the Lincoln School prize fund, the secretary to thank the School Committee for the use of the grounds and the school. The Rev. Mr Naylor has gone to the West Coast for a-few days.
