R emaf kable Increase. THE COUNTRY'S STAND-BY. Though it is true that the main wealth of the Dominion comes from the sheep industry, dairying, like the British Jack Tars in the American war procession, "helped." Had it not been for the increase in dairy production last season the trade balance would have been a much more sombre affair. The growth of the butter and cheese export industry has been phenomenal, as the following figures for the decades stated show (year ending March 31st in each instance): —

The total number of chassis for lorries, trucks, etc., imported during the eight months was 1607, of which 174 were from Great Britain, against 348 in the same peiad of 1929, 894 from Canada against 867, and 535 from the U.S.A., against 5537. The imports from England were exactly half, while those from the U.S.A. were only one-fourth, but the Canadian figures are fairly well sustained. , - There were 1607 lorry chassis and 599 car chassis imported for which bodies were made by New Zealand coaclibuilders. The imports of commercial vehicles for the periods mentioned are as follow:
