CANCER FUND.
ART UNION PROPOSED.
[THE PEESS Special Serrlee.]
AUCKLAND, November 12. A proposal is believed to be on foot for the holding of an art union to assist in raising funds in aid of tho cancer campaign, it i s understood that such a scheme was discussed at a recent meeting of the New Zealand Cancer Besearch Committee in Wellington. Auckland and Otago are said to have favoured making an application for an art union permit, but Wellington and Canterbury opposed the suggestion which was vetoed. there is a prospect of this decision being reconsidered at a further meeting to be held in Dunedin on December 10th.
It is understood that the granting of a permit to hold an art union has been tentatively approved in the case of an application made by the Otago Expansion League, and it is believed possible that this permit, if- finally approved, may be applied to a national art union for the benefit of the cancer fund.
Matters in connexion with the Auckland district's campaign for funds were discussed between the Minister for Health, the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, and the local committee. The Minister said that his assistance had been fought in connexion with a certain aspect of the campaign and he had promised his cooperation. j
