TOURIST OFFICER LEAVING.
MR L. J. BAYFEILD HONOURED. The services of Mr L. Bayfeild has given during the past six years in his position as officer in charge of the Tourist Department in Christchurch were recognised last evening when a gathering of representatives of the various motor services* in Canterbury met to congratulate him on his promotion to the Department's office in llotorua, and to bid him farewell before he takes his departure from Christchurch. Mr T. ftobson, who presided, mentioned the endless amqunt of work which Mr Bayfeild had undertaken in the interests of the Department, and . said that he had at all times treated every ore of the bodies with which he had had business with an equality which had earned for him the friendship of all motor service members. Co-ordination, which was a feature of Mr Bayfeild's work, was th<a keynote of the smooth running of the services and of the Department. On behalf of the representatives present, he presented Mr Bayfeild with a suitcase, a golf bag, aiidl a brassie club, and stated that the future of the Tourist Department was in good hands when men of Mr Bnyfeild's capabilities were at the head. Others present endorsed the remarks made by Mr Robs on, «.n<J Sir Bayfeild suitably replied. Opportunity was also taken during the evening to welcome "to Christchurch Mr R. \V Marshall, who is to take over the position which is being made vacant through the transference of Mr Bayfeild.
