ANNUAL COMPETITIONS
The competitions in connexion with the Band of Hope Union were continued at the Durham street Methodist Hall on Saturday evening. In spite of the inclement weather the hall was filled to capacity by an enthusi ustic audience. Mr T. Hawker was, judge for the dumbbell competition, Mrs Basher for the wand drill and dumbbell. Section 111,, and Mr H. Shaw for elocution and dialogues. Following were the results: — if timorous Recitation, Section 1., BoysGordon Windsor (Sydenham Methodist), 86 points, 1; Billio Cook (St. Paul's), 84 points. 3.
Also" competed—Douglas Hall (Sumner 1.0. G.T.). Humorous Recitation, Section 11., BoysArthur Thompson (Sydenham Methodist), 76 points, and Oeorge McNeill (Linwood 1.0. R.), 76 points (equal), 1. Humorous Character Sketah, Section I.— Recalls: Norma Sturroek (St. Paul's), Rhona Hill (Linwood T.0.R.), Molllc Moore (St ; Paul's), Valerie Cater (St. Paul's), Gladys Knse (Linwood 1.0. U.). Wand Drill—Knox Presbyterian, 76 points. 1
Also compoted: Sydenham Methodist. Dumbbell Competition, Section II. —Lin wood 1.0. R., first squad, 88 points, 1. Linwood 1.0. R., second squad, competed also. Pumbbell Competition, Section 111. —Knos Presbyterian, 79 points, 1. The competitions will be continued thit evening in the Durham street Hall, when the following sections will be judged:Pianoforte Solo, Class B, reading at sight, Section I.; concerted recitation, Section II.; brass instrument solo;, mouth organ solo; dialogue, Section I.; finals of humorous character sketch.
