DARING BANK ROBBERY.
LUNCH HOUR RAID. TELLER FIRES AT THIEVES. (USITZLI PSESS ASSOCIATION—BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH —COPYRIGHT.) (Received September 19th, 8.45 p.m.) MELBOURNE, September 19. In broad daylight, at Brunswick, at the branch'of the Bank of New South Wales to-day, armed men held up two officers, one of whom was hit on the head with a piece of iron. W. Brooks, the bank teller, fired shots at the bandits, who escaped in a taxi with £3OO. The hold-up occurred while the manager was at lunch. The robbers ordered Brooks and Martin to put up their hands, and then struck tho latter on the head with a piece of piping, felling him. • The money was gathered up by the robbers, who rushed away, followed by Brooks, who fired several shots, one. of which shattered the windscreen of the taxi, the driver of which was apparently unaware of the character of his passengers, He was bundled off his seat t.) the road »nd his cab driven away, by one of the thieves. It was abandoned in a side street, and later £IOO ■ in notes was found on the seat. Martin had several stitches put in the wound in his head. ■
