EDUCATION BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING.
The Canterbury Board of Education met yesterday, when there were present Messrs W. A. Banks (chairman), R. Wild, W. Johnson, J. G. Gow, G. Smith. C. S. Thompson, W. P. Spencer, J. «f. Hurley, S. R. Evison, B. J. Bignell, and J. W. Preen. The following appointments were confirmed: —Amberley, Mr D. 8. McNaughton, bead teaqher; Aranui. Mr P. Scott, head teacher; Ataahua, Miss E. L. Wickes, sole teacher; North Brighton, Mrs J. E. Alford, assistant mistress; Ohoka, Mr W. G. Mayer, head teacher; Runanga, Mr E. A. Selby, assistant master; Timaru West, Mr S. W. Street, head teacher; Waltnam, Mr B. Robbins, assistant master; Yaldhurst. Miss K. Cumming, assistant mistress. The ' following resignations were accepted:—Aranui, Mr I. N. Bradley, sub-assistant,. Wanganui; Ashton, Mr H. G. Brown, S.T. (Pigeon Bay); ton West,. Miss M. M. Smith, A.M. (home); Longbeach, Miss C. F Connors, S.T. (Dunedin); Marshland, Mrs R. Pilkington, A.M. (retiring); Methven, Mr H. W.. Black, Sec. A.M (Mosgiel) Springs ton. Miss E. H Gabb, AM. (marriage); Washdyke, Mr P. Scott, H T (Aranui). • The Appointments Committee re-, ported that a deputation of Balmoral residents' had waited on it to ask whether the whole cost of the bus service to Culverden could be met by the Board. It was resolved to defer ' consideration until the end of the ] year, when a new contract would be arranged. , An application was received from,, the Geraldine committee for payment i by the Board of the whole cost of the conveyance service on Sercombe's road j It was resolved to explain what was ■ being done by- parents in other dis- I tricts and to. point out thatithe Board j was at present assisting to the limit of its ability. . _' ' . I Correspondence was received regard*, j ing the proposed closing of the Longbeach School and the conveyance of the children to Eiffelton Messrs Armi- ■ tage and Smith reported having at- ! tended a meeting of householders m the distFict. and it was resolved to ask the Loflgbeach committee to consult with the .ashton committee with a , view to submission ot a comprehensive | proposal to t. ke in children trom the < two districts. A letter was received from the Department asking for further information regai ding the conveyance of. children from Gebbie'a Valley and Motufearara. It was resolved to confer with the, committee m the matter. The report was adopted. The Buildings Committee reported that plans were approved tor a new | school at Okam's Bay and the rebuilding of the Willowby School; It was also dec.ued to draw a plan for a school at Russell & Flat in accordance with the Linwood avenue type. The report was adopted.
