CRYSTAL PALACE TALKIES. "WITH BYRD AT THE SOUTH POLE.** "With Byrd at the South Pole," Paramount's thrilling picturisation of the recent Byrd expedition to the Antarctic regions, will be presented at Crystal, Palace Theatre next week, commencing Monday. Photographed by two of Paramount's cameramen, Joseph Rucker and Wi.lard Vander Veer, who, for two years toiled with Byrd and his compan icns in the Polar regions. With Byrd at the South Pole" depicts in dramatio form one of the finest achievements of modern times. The results obtained _by thepe two cameramen are striking. Tha drama, the heroism, the comedy, the brief, fleeting moment* of despair, are all blended together into one stirring story, the equal of which has probably never beer seen before on the audible screen. "With Byrd at the South Pole remains first. and foremost a picture of Mtioa. And then, when one realises that this aramat isation of the ByTd Polar expedition is the first picture of "the bottom of the world ever photographed it adds another thrill. During the last two reels of this picture, beginning when Byrd and Ba chen, a radio operator and a cameraman, take on for the Pole itself, the voice of Floyd Gibbons, radio* announcer and journalist, is heard describ* ing the details of this now historic flight Gibbons brings to his vivid description a knowledge of flying that makes him particularly well suited to this interpretative role. While the audience is actually seeing the South Pole, Gibbons is telling all about it in dramatic, rousing language. "With Byrd at the South Pole is an outstanding contribution to our age of wonders and scientific achievements. It is a ereai story of man's courage, and should prove as erciting and as entertaining as any Jules Verne romance of endurance and adven ture. . The box plans for the season are now at The Bristol Piano Company.
