OBITUARY.

MR BRUCE M'LACHLAN. Mr Bruce McLachlan, who was accidentally killed on his farm at Doyleston on Saturday last, was a member of the well-known Ellesmere family of that name, being a son of Mrs McLachlan and Mr Alexander McLachlan, of "Strathlachlan," Doyleston. He was educated at the Doyleston School, and later entered upon a farming career. In his chosen, life's work, he was markedly successful. A striking characteristic was his intense love ot Nature and all living things, tiis flocks and herds were more than animals to him, and he cared for them with the thought and understanding bequeathed to him bv his Scottish forbears. An exceptionally industrious man. he managed successfully several farm properties adjacent to his home farm, "Bogside " and yet t was never '.too. busy to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a most loyal member of the Leeston Presbyterian Church, and wa3 generous in his support of nil church activities. >His personal qualities won the respect and este ;m of all who knew him. and to call jhim friend Was a privilege. Three years ago, Mr McLachlan married Miss Ada Withell, of Mayfield, Ashburton. Since then they have resided at Doyleston, where their home was the centre of an ever-widening circle of friends.

The interment took place at -'the Ellesmere Public Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon. The Rev. J. C\ Young conducted the service nt the home, \nd at the eraveside, .-and delivered an address.
