* • 1 CANTERBURY AMATEUR CLUB. | There was.a fair attendance at the annual meeting of the Canterbury? .Amateur* Athletic Club held in the Pioneer Sports Club's rooms last night. The president (Mp C. H. Taylor, jun.) was in the chair. " , The annual report showed that there was room for considerable improvement, in the club's financial position. standing subscriptions amounted to £42 10s, which indicated tha£ only SOtper,-, cent, of the members had 1 ' met their, obligations. Subscriptions received during the year totalled £37 12sV"6d;' compared wrath £32 16s 3d for the previous season. The-, membership stood at 87, including' 31 new members enrolled mainly through th« energy of the club captain, Mr E. Cordery, The meetings included one in February in conjunction with the Papanui Amateur Sports Club at English Park. This,though resulting in a financial loss, was very successful. The following were elected'to represent Canterbury at the New Zealand championships at Wanganui:—N. J. Suckling,, P.' Ensor, J. \V. Batstone,, R. Cordery, G..'N|coll, and J. G. Barnes. Batstone wW the pole vault,, and Suckling was runner-up in' the 880 yds. Congratulations were extended to Batstono for his New Zealand record of lift 35in in the polo vault. , 'The balance-sheet showed-an excess •of assets over liabilities of £IOB 2s 2d. Receipts, including £l3 9s 9d brought forward, totalled £SB 6s 6d, and cash in hand amounted to £lB -3s 3d. In moving tho adoption of the report, the president commended the excellent club spirit shown by members on the track. During the year a monthly-bulletin had been issued to members, and he would like to see this' practice continued. Excellent work had been done during the year by the secretary (Mr F. W. Maples).
