Wade. {secretary). ■,'.", it was decided to accept the invitation of the Ohrlstcnurcb Indoor Bowling' Rinks to send three rinks to represent - the Centre-at-the closing of the season, on the 23rd ins V Mr Oakey was asked to.select the, rinks. Permission was given for the -following tournaments:— "Spreydori and Canterbury Clubs, on Labour Day (October 27th);-New: Brighton Club, on October 4th j and Canterbury Club for January Ist and 2nd, 1931. A proposal that the last-mentioned application be held over was defeated.. Entertainment Fund. On the motion of Mr Rollinson, the resolution regarding the entertainment levy wis read. It was agreed to, on the motion of Mr Steans, at a meeting of the Centre on Septemf ber 12th," 1927. It read: "That of the amount collected by the Centre by way of annual levy, 6d per member be set aside for entertainment purposes." Replying to Mr Rollinson, the secretary said that the resolution had not been carried into effect, and the reason was that-It was impossible to give effect to it.. If' the 6d' per member bad been set. aside it would havt produced £35 to £4O; while in three.years the cost of entertainment was, £195 14s sd, and without thespeeial levy of 10s per player there would have been: a debit of £ll2 10s 9d. The only way to'create an entertainmentfund was by direct levy on the clubs attached to the Centre. Mr Rollinson said that it seemed extraordinary that a resolution of the Centre could be rescinded by the secretary. If it was to be rescinded, it should be- done by the delegates. Mr Lennie said that it appeared to. him that the resolution was not neglected by the secretary, but that the.entertainment levy was, far. too small. He thought.that the secretary should have thrown the blame in the matter on the president or executive. - The ■ secretary explained that it was not ». special levy, but that 6d of the levy was tobe deducted for .entertainment purposes. Mr Good thought'that the'secretary's explanation should be satisfactory to members.' The resolution contained no direction that the 6d should be placed in a special fund. The chairman said that the secretary's explanation had been very clear. If an, entertainment fund was to be established the levy, on the clubs would have to be increased. Mr Summers moved "That the resolution bo rescinded." This was seconded, but on-being put was not agreed to unanimously, there being twodissentients. It Was therefore declared not carried One of the dissentients explained that his objection was t,hat the secretary, or any secretary, should not have the power to rescind a resolution of the Centre. Mr Rollinson' then proposed that a> committee of three should be set up to go into the finances of the Centre. This was not seconded, and he then proposed that a sub-committee be set up to go into ways and means in respect of an entertainment fund. On Mr Summers giving notice to move that the resolution be rescinded; Mr Rollinson agreed to postpone his second proposition.. Pennant Competition. The Cashmere Hills Club wrote recommending that the Pennant competition be very much curtailed, as it dragged on too late .in the season. It was also suggested that it should be played in two sections, the winners to play off. ■■■-■■ ■■'.,■. •' The Canterbury Club wrote recommending that the four-rink championship be played on Saturday afternoons, instead of in the evenings. . The United Club forwarded a similar recommendation. . ~--.". u Replying to the chairman, Mr Efford said that the Match Committee had nothing to report "as to the competition for the. coming season, as the committee had no instructions as to what form the Pennant competition Should take. He moved: "That the competition be a four-rink championship, to-be played on Saturdays, and a Pennant fixture similar to' last year for those players not taking part In the four-rink championship. Mr Billcliff seconded. Mr Wood moved, as an amendment, and Mr 'Ramsay seconded: "That the competition be on similar lines to last year's." After a lengthy discussion, the amendment was agreed to by 15 votes to 13. Greens Committee. ; ' Mr Oakey, in the absence of Mr Burson, reported by word of mouth .on the work of the Greens Committee, and set out the various matters discussed. It was recommended .that the Centre should set up a permanent; Greens Committee ■ that could give advico: when wanted by greenkeepprs, and also inspect the greens during the playing season,: and report on improvements shown from year to year. The recommendation was agreed to, and. the committee.' was -.accorded a' vote of thanks.' The same committee was 'reappointed.- . .By on clouds from an aeroplane, a TDutch scientist 'recently caused rain to fall, in the form of la heavy drizzle, over an area.of over I three miles.
