MAGISTERIAL i MONDAY. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Charles Stitt Martin was charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-ear in Ferry road. Mr C. S. Thomns appeared for accused, and pleaded not guilty. Sergeant Kelly stated that Martin was found staggering about in a drunken condition in Ferry road at 2.30 a.m. on Sunday. His car was standing across tho road. Constable Joseph Thompson gave evidence that accused was drunk when arrested. He was trying to start tbe oar, bat could not do so. He and a friend had been In the telephone box, and his companion was also slightly under tho Influence of liquor. Mr Thomas said that there was no question about the state of his client at the time of the arrest, but he was not in the ear and could not be said to be Intoxicated in enure? of the car. William Laurence Lnughlin (Mr R. J. Tjoughnan) pleaded guilty to a charge that on September Bth he was in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor-car. Sergeant Kelly stated that accused was arrested at 12.40 a.m. yesterday, driving up Victoria street and into Durham street. He was absolutely drunk and did not seem to know where he was. W, Johnston) of driving a motor-cycle in a dangerous manner, was dismissed. William G. Shackel, Jan., was fined £2 and costs on a similar charge. For driving at a dangerous speed, Reginald William Edgar was fined 20s and costs. A similar oharge ogoinst Frank Lncknor was dismissed, John Marshall was fined 10s and costs for using an expired number disc. Mrs Gertrude Owens- was fined 10s and costs for having obscured number-plates on a car. MAINTENANCE CA6ES. (Before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M.) For disobedience of a maintenance order, Joseph James Gallagher waa sentenced to tlire* months' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended provided he paid 8s per week off the arrears in addition to tho amount of the current order.
