CAPTAIN COOK STATUE.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —In gassing at the picture of the clay model for the statue of' Captain Cook in your paper of Saturday, I was struck with the inspiration of the artist. The nobility of the figure, the intenseness of tho face, tho eloquence of the hands (which have themselves gripped the tiller), the picturesque uniform of tho day, and the background of ropo and stanchion are all so thoroughly in keeping with the man who gave this beautiful country to Great Britain, that I,feel a debt of gratitude to the sculptor who will acknowledge it all in stone.—Yours, etc., A SAILOR'S DAUGHTEE. September 7 th, 1930.
