A BROKEN AXLE.
LIMITED EXPRESS DELAYED. (PRESS. .ASSOCIATION TZLEGBAJt) WELLINGTON, September 6. The Limited express, which leaves Auckland at ? p.m. and is due in Wellington at 9 30 a.m. had a narrow escape this morning from what might have been a serious disaster. An axle on one of the cars broke as the train was passing Kelvin Grove, between Bunnythorpe and Palmerston North, but the prompt action of Mr C. GLoveridge, of Hamilton, prevented derailment and possible disaster. He, noticing that the car he was in—the third from the front—was bumping heavily, applied the emergency brake, and thereby brought the train to a standstill.
