DEATH OF CYCLIST.
. INQUEST OPENED. . Injuries from which he later died were received by George Corliss Hay, aged 15, .of 20 Howe Btreet, New Brighton, when he fell off his bicycle early, last Thursday morning. Haywas ' riding -'-towatds the - City behind a tram, and, apparently,, not noticing some exposed sleepers where the 'track was under repair, ran' into them and was thrown off. 'After > the accident he was taken home,' but was later removed to the Christchurch Publio Hospital. ' An -or. oration -'was performed but he died on Saturday. Hay. was a messenger boy, employed by Eugene Spitz. An inquest was opened before. Mr E. P.- Mosley,-Coroner, yesterday. l After evidence of identification had heen. given by, James Giryin Hay, a? brother; the inquest' Was adjourned sine 'die; Sergeant T. Wolfindale represented the police, Cecil Sharp, who gave back tothe English people the .old songs and dances .which they were in s danger of forgetting, is not to be himself -forgotten. The~ songs of ; 01d England -will always be a restored monument to his memory, but the memorial building, Cecil • Sharp House, which has - been - opened in Eegent's' Park, London/'is to-carry on hiai ,work.The collections and books of Cecil Sharp will' 'be hous6d-in"~ the library, and in- the- open-air; theatre of garden English young men and maidens will -dance - again the: country dances he preserved.
