<> SATURDAY'S PAPER CHASE. The Pioneer Sports Club staged quite a novel competition on Saturday in the shape, of a motor-cyclists' paperchase, the course chosen by the "hares' being near Bolleston, around the by-roads and across several • water-races, the "hares" being the captain (T. R. McCleary) and. E. -J. Bradshaw, who led the twenty-ono huntsmen a merry dance and then got to cover without being actually caught, the distance traversed being about 14-miles. . The following were the starters: —J. J. Rossiter, B. Hamptpn, H. S. Butcher, E. Atherton-Smith, D. T. Withers, W ; K. Mulholland, N. W. Anderson, J. McCleary, H. G. Taylor, H. Burrows, T, Ball, S. W. Cunningham, W. G. Bradshaw. 11. Lariauze, B. J. Jay, V. <C. Browne, G. Cormack, W. K. Sunloy, C. B. Moffatt, N. Lowe, and A. Hawkins. The hares were given ten minutes' start, and had their followers thinking furiously at the cross-roads, and half of them lost the trail. The first six to finish were, however, elose on the heels of their prey and finished full of running, the awards being: J. J. Rossiter first, T. Ball second, E. Athertonr-Smith third, J. McCleary fourth, and J. T. Withers fifth. The. by-roads were in a very sticky con.dition, and at the turns broadsiding was frequent and free.
